What is NX ?
NX is a new technology which developed by the NoMachine aims for nothing less than revolutionize network computing. It is a very efficient method of remote access, provides near local speed application responsiveness over high latency low bandwitdth links such as ISDN or modems. NX is a new technology that allows one to run remote x11 sessions across slow or low bandwitdth connection, it is a method of buffering and compressing X11 traffic. Users experience with NX is on of excellent responsiveness. Users with previous remote X11 session experience are stunned by NX's speed and its snappy application interaction. Moreover, NX also can connect to remote RDP and VNC sessions and offer big performance wins over TightVNC and rdesktop remote access. NX can do all of this from Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris and Windows workstations as well as from some types of PDA gadgets.
Launching NX
Before NX launching the experts says that x network performance cannot be improved considerably without drastic changes in the internals of applications. But in March 23, 2003, to be precise. The posting's title was "About our effort at NoMachine". Directed to forum@xfree86.org, the open mailing list of the then still-united XFress86 project, Gian Filippo detailed the achievements of a group of developers in his company, NoMachine. The group successfully had concluded work on the first version of a new "low bandwidth remote X" application, NX, that the company started to sell as a commercial product. Later, Gian had sent similar messages to other addresses, including Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP), KDE Core Developers, GNOME Developers, RealVNC, TightVNC and the rdesktop mailing lists. The developer communities thus were informed NX.
Extend the Reach of your Local Network
NoMachine NX Server is a cost-effective solution that enables any business to deploy centralized applications to thin clients, mobile and home workers, over any network connection, with astonishing speed and ease of use. NX uses the power of the X-Window system to bring the network transparency of the Unix world to any operating system, including Windows and Mac OS/X. Additionally NX bridges the standard file and print services of the client, with the Unix file and print services of the server, so that, wherever you are, you can see the same applications and the same network resources.
Besides the native X-Window protocol, NX is able to translate, encrypt and compress industry standard protocols like the RDP protocol, used by Microsoft and Citrix, and the VNC protocol, used by a number of freely available tools, giving secure and fast access to the complete set of facilities made available inside a corporate network. The power of network computing has never been more affordable!
NX Distributed Computing Architecture
Behind NoMachine software is the NX Distributed Computing Architecture, a suite of Open Source technologies and commercial tools, designed by NoMachine to make network computing as easy and widespread as Web browsing. NoMachine has built the foundations of its NXDCA on two well known and widely used open standards, SSH and the X-Window System, the windowing system which is behind the Graphical User Interfaces of Linux and the Unix Operating System.
What NX Server is Right for You?
NX server runs on Linux and Solaris operating systems, serving applications installed on the remote computer, or operating as a gateway to any Windows Terminal Server and VNC server available on the back-end. NX clients are available for a wide range of platforms and operating systems, and all NX clients are free.
NX Server Personal Edition
NX Server Personal Edition is ideal for remote workers and advanced users who need fast and secure access to their home or office workstation. Yet limited to a single user session, NX Server Personal edition has all the features of the other NX server products.
NX Server Small Business Edition
NX Server Small Business Edition is designed for companies and organizations which need to provide remote access to small workgroups and branch departments. Allowing up to 5 concurrent sessions in the standard version, with user-packs of 5 additional users available separately, NX Server Small Business Edition includes the NX Server Manager, the NX tool allowing users to administer their NX servers by a powerful, yet easy to use Web interface.
NX Server Enterprise Edition
NX Server Enterprise Edition gives you all the power of NX at an ubeatable price. Being licensed per-server, and not per-user, it can host tens, or even hundreds of concurrent sessions on a single computer, bringing the cost of large-scale deployments down to a fraction of the competing products. NX Server Enterprise comes with extended support options and obviously includes the NX Server Manager, so you save in management costs and don't have to pay later what you saved upfront.
